Season over for Exequiel Palacios

Bayer 04 Leverkusen will have to manage without Exequiel Palacios for the rest of the run-in. The Argentina international suffered a groin injury in training and is now sidelined for the two remaining Bundesliga games on Saturday against Union Berlin (15.30 CEST, BayArena) and Borussia Dortmund a week later. That was the outcome of the examination of the 22-year-old on Friday afternoon.

Palacios suffered the injury when making a lunge by getting caught in the pitch. He will not have to undergo an operation but the midfielder is expected to be out of action for eight weeks. That means Palacios will miss the Copa América held in Argentina and Colombia from 13 June to 10 July.

Marc and Sean Landwehr were narrowly defeated by the top favourites in the quarter-finals of the VBL Club Championship Final 2025/26.
