Yurchenko returns to training

Good news at the start of the international break: Vladlen Yurchenko is back in training.

The Ukrainian, who suffered a hairline fracture to his left fibula in training on his first call-up to the Ukraine senior squad, completed his first training session with the Werkself in two months. Roger Schmidt held two training sessions on Tuesday.

A number of youth players joined in as 15 Werkself first team players are away on international duty giving youngsters like Atakan Akkaynak the chance to train with Bundesliga players during the international break. Some of them will have the chance to play on Thursday when Bayer 04 meet Fortuna Köln in a friendly at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium at 16.00 CET. Entrance is free.

U19s suffer first defeat in UCL Youth League at Benfica

For the first time this season, the Bayer Leverkusen U19s were beaten in the UEFA Youth League. After two wins and a draw, Bayer 04 lost 5-0 at Benfica on matchday 4. The goals for the home side were scored by Goncalo Moreira (9’, 40’) and Francisco Silva (43’) in the first half. After the restart, Eduardo Fernandes (48’) and Gil Neves (55’) completed the scoring.
