Wendell call-up for the Seleção

A huge honour for Wendell: The Werkself left back has been selected for the Seleção squad for the first time. The 23-year-old is in the Brazil squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia (6 October) and Venezuela (11 October).

It's a childhood dream come true for Wendell. "It's the greatest thing that ever happened to me. Every Brazilian dreams of playing for the Seleção. It's fantastic and a really big honour for me," said Wendell ahead of the champions league game between Bayer 04 and AS Monaco.

For Bayer 04 this is the continuation of a long-standing tradition of having Brazil internationals at the club. Wendell played alongside Zé Roberto at the start of his career at Gremio in Porto Alegre.

Matchday news #BMGB04: Two records in sight at Borussia-Park

Bayer 04 have a score to settle with Borussia Mönchengladbach after their late equaliser in the reverse fixture. Victory in Saturday evening’s game (18:30 CET) would also be the team’s fifth in a row in all competitions and their best run this season, while Gladbach are only just above the bottom three after going four games without a win.
