Warm welcome for the Werkself

The Werkself have finally arrived! However, the group is not yet complete for the training camp in Zell am See: The first group of six Bayer 04 pros and the squad from the Sandhausen game were welcomed to the team hotel. A number of first team players are still to arrive.

Flags bearing the Bayer 04 logo have been flying all over Kaprun for several days. The Werkself colours of black and red are evident in the centre of the delightful Zell am See, at the training ground, at the Alois Latini Stadium and also at the team hotel 'Tauern Spa'. And nearly all the players have now arrived.
There was great anticipation ahead of the arrival of the Werkself in Kaprun. However, not everybody arrived at the training camp at the same time. Members of the support staff have been working hard ahead of the training camp. The other group looked after the Werkself in Sunday's friendly at Sandhausen that ended in a 3-2 defeat. Bayer 04 head coach Heiko Herrlich, who had to make do without twelve of his players, announced after the match: "Over the next few days at the training camp we’ll work on everybody giving 100 per cent all of the time!"
Karim Bellarabi, Joel Abu Hanna, Jonathan Tah, André Ramalho, Lars Bender, Marlon Frey and fitness coach Daniel Jouvin were only able to watch the game on their mobile phones. They were en route to Austria during the friendly and the sextet was the first to check in on Sunday at 16.00 CET.
The squad involved at Sandhausen arrived at the team hotel around 20.30 CET after a flight from Mannheim to Salzburg followed by coach transfer to Zell am See. There was a traditional welcome with a brass band and basket of gifts with beaming smiles all round. And that in spite of the stresses and strains of the friendly.
First outdoor training session on Tuesday
Heiko Herrlich and his fellow coaches have amended the training regime accordingly: The players will complete a recovery session in the hotel gymnasium on Monday morning. That will be followed in the afternoon by the obligatory match official session. The first outing on the training ground is set for Tuesday morning at 10.00 CET.
Absent Werkself pros Bernd Leno, Julian Brandt, Benny Henrichs and Charles Aránguiz are due to be back by then with the Confed Cup players arriving later.

Werkself review #SGEB04: ‘Ice cold’ for third win in a row

The Werkself were impressive in the 3-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt with clinical finishing and a first half "at a high level" that head coach Kasper Hjulmand draws a lot of positives from. The same should apply to Arthur, who scored for the first time in the Bundesliga. Edmond Tapsoba, for his part, was happy about his 250th appearance in a Bayer 04 jersey. "I think we're slowly finding our feet again," said goalscorer Malik Tillman, summing up the performance. The Werkself review.
