There have been no physical meetings for the members of staff for the past 18 months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Everybody, including the first team squad, met at the Werkself home ground on Tuesday to gear up for the 2021/22 season.
Carro and sporting managing director Rudi Völler honoured long-standing members of staff at the event including Rüdiger Vollborn and Dirk Dreher The two stalwarts have been with Bayer 04 in different positions for the past 40 years.
While Vollborn and Dreher continue to work the Werkself, there was a farewell for four members of staff with over 20 years at Bayer 04: Gretel Rohwer, Peggy Thun, Dagmar Lauterbach and Ulrike Schenkmann.
The Bundesliga is back at the BayArena this Saturday as Bayer 04 play their first home game of the 2026/27 campaign against Union Berlin (15:30 CEST). Moussa Diaby could make his second debut for the Werkself following his return to Leverkusen – and it would be an ideal fixture for the Frenchman. Starting with the 2026/27 season, Bayer 04 has created a permanent memorial space at the BayArena. In the upper section of Block A in the southeast corner of the stadium, Werkself fans can honour friends and family members with whom they have shared many special moments connected to Bayer 04. In the coming months, this space will be gradually expanded, in particular with the active support of the fans.
