Live stream on Saturday: Digital kick-off 2020/21

Here we go again: Football returns to the BayArena on Sunday and Werkself fans can look forward to exciting games and unmissable goals. The new season is round the corner and Bayer 04 have come up with something special to get supporters in the mood for the new campaign. Despite the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing, the season is to be launched in the traditional way – this time with a digital kick-off!

On Saturday, 12 September, fans can look forward to a 90-minute live broadcast from 15.30 CET at bayer04.de and on the official Bayer 04 YouTube channel with a programme of black and red entertainment from the Schwadbud – the perfect introduction to the new season.

CEO Fernando Carro, head of the youth section Thomas Eichin, popular figure Ramazan ‘Rambo’ Özcan plus the Bayer 04 women’s team captain Jessica Wich and new signing Kristin Kögel will all be guests in the studio. They will not only field questions from the presenters Mara Mones and Cedric Pick but also show what they can do in an amusing studio challenge.

Viewers can also look forward to seeing new signing Patrik Schick take part in the popular ‘Black or Red’ format, sporting director Simon Rolfes, who will answer penetrating questions from fans, Bayer 04 legend Stefan Kießling in a completely unusual role, the Werkself first team who will send out warm greetings to the fans plus much more.

It is possible to join in the chat on the YouTube channel during the whole broadcast – comments will be worked into the broadcast and questions redirected to the studio guests.

The perfect introduction to the new season ahead of the opening fixture in the DFB Cup against Eintracht Norderstedt on Sunday, 13 September (15.30 CET).

The Bundesliga home game against VfL Wolfsburg in the first half of the season was one of those classic ‘days to forget’ for Bayer 04 Women. It started with goalkeeper Charlotte Voll being shown a red card in the first minute of the game, and following a further sending-off, coach Roberto Pätzold's 9-women side ended up losing 5-1 to last season's runners-up. At 18.30 CET on Sunday, they'll have the chance to exact revenge at the AOK Stadium - and pick up valuable points in the race for third place.

Werkself held to 1-1 draw by Bayern in eventful encounter

Bayer 04 were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Bayern Munich in an eventful Matchday 26 fixture in the Bundesliga. Aleix Garcia had given the Werkself the lead inside six minutes, but Bayern levelled in the second half through Luis Diaz, despite Nicolas Jackson having been send off before the break. Diaz was then dismissed himself as Leverkusen pushed for a winner, which failed to materialise as Jonas Hofmann saw a late goal ruled out.
