Bayer 04 have signed Poland international Arkadiusz Milik with immediate effect. The 18-year-old striker has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a five and a half year deal to 30 June 2018.
Milik will join the Werkself squad for the start of the winter training camp in Lagos in Portugal (3 to 12 January 2013). Both clubs have agreed not to divulge details of the deal.
“We have signed Arkadiusz Milik in the face of stiff domestic and international competition. He has already made great progress despite being so young. But we are fully convinced this player can and will develop even further here,” said Bayer 04 managing director Wolfgang Holzhäuser.
“Arkadiusz Milik is considered to be possibly the biggest rising star in Poland at the moment. He has already made it to the Poland squad at the age of 18. Our coaching team led by Sascha Lewandowski and Sami Hyypiä will take care of his development with us. I’m sure he will be a very valuable addition to the squad,” declared Bayer 04 sporting director Bayer 04 sporting director Rudi Völler.
Milik: “HSV match was a great experience”
Milik was able to get a first look at his new club in the 3-0 Bundesliga victory over Hamburg SV on Saturday. “The match confirmed I made the right decision. It was a great experience. The performance on the pitch was outstanding and the atmosphere at the stadium was fantastic. As far as I’m concerned, it was a perfect demonstration of what football in Germany should be about. On top of that, I felt Bayer 04 Leverkusen definitely wanted me. They pulled out all the stops to sign me,” said Milik.
