Löw picks three Bayer 04 players

Germany coach Joachim Löw has announced his squad for the last international of this year to be played in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The squad for Wednesday’s friendly against England includes René Adler, Simon Rolfes and Parick Helmes from Bayer 04. The Germany coach has also called up three uncapped players: Marvin Compper, Tobias Weis (Hoffenheim) and Marcel Schäfer (Wolfsburg).

Kießling misses out

Löw has only picked four strikers which meant that the expected call-up for Bayer 04 striker Stefan Kießling did not happen. "Joachim Löw will have his reasons. Of course it’s disappointing for Stefan Kießling but that should act as an incentive to stick at it. If he continues to perform as he has in the past then there won’t be many squads in the future that don’t take him into account,” commented Bayer 04 coach Bruno Labbadia in response to the decision.

Germany face England in Berlin on Wednesday for the 31st encounter between the two countries. The last time the two sides met was the opening game for the new Wembley Stadium in August 2007 when Germany sealed a 2-1 win. There are still around 2,000 tickets available for Wednesday’s friendly fixture.
