Pirmin Schwegler has played in eight Bundesliga games this season and his performances for Bayer 04 recently earned him a call-up to the Switzerland. But the first half of the season has ended early for Schwegler after the 21-year-old suffered an injury to his right knee in training on Wednesday.

An examination by club doctor Dr. Achim Münster revealed that Schwegler has again torn his interior cruciate ligament. He suffered the same injury in the first half of last season. The Swiss midfielder will wear a splint for the next six weeks to stabilise his knee.

A very bitter blow: This injury means that Schwegler misses the chance of making his full international debut for Switzerland. Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld had picked him for the friendly against Finland on 19 November.
